The most popular style of window blinds in Britain are undoubtedly Venetian blinds. These, as I’m sure you’re aware, have numerous horizontal slats which can be tilted forwards or backwards in order to regulate the amount of light which passes through them. The entire set can also be fully raised to allow the maximum amount of light through the window.

I recall Venetian blinds from the 1970′s where each room in my childhood home had metal Venetian blinds and to this day, I despise them. The problem with the metal blinds is the thin slats are easily kinked, and these kinks stand out a mile regardless which position the slats are in and make the entire blind look a mess. Plastic or vinyl Venetian blinds are also available, however these can also be easily kinked or creased and once it’s done, they’ll never look the same again.
By far the best looking and most hard-wearing style is those with natural wooden slats. These are a little chunkier than the plastic, vinyl or metal Venetian blinds, but being made from natural wooden slats they look some much more homely and cosy in comparison to their cheaper alternatives. Obviously being made from wood they do not kink or crease and actually snapping one of the slats is highly unlikely. They are also available in a wide range of finishes including pine, oak, teak and mahogany so they’ll blend perfectly with wooden window frames, hardwood floors or your wooden furniture.
